Michelangelo & his David
Seeing the David in the "flesh" is always a highly charged emotional experience. But then so is walking amongst Michelangelo's dramatically powerful "unfinished" slaves. They are so surprisingly contemporary that it's hard to believe they were sculpted five hundred years ago.
The gallery also boasts one of the largest collections of medieval and late gothic masterpieces, and the famous Sala del Colosso is dedicated to monumental 15th century altar pieces including works by Perugino and Filippino Lippi.
There's even a museum of around fifty musical instruments which belonged to the Medici Gran dukes, including the very first piano and priceless 17th century Stradivarius violins.
